Womens Clothing - What To Buy On Sale

It's 'Sale' time and everyone is offering discounts on Winter stock - so it's a great time to go shopping, but with so much product out there, sales can be confusing, and a lot of people tend to shop 'badly'.  The urgency of a sale puts us under pressure to shop quickly - let's face it - if you don't buy it today - it's probably not going to be there tomorrow.  Sale stock is always limited, especially limited size ranges, so here's some tips on how to shop quickly and successfully in the sales:

Go for the classics:  you can never go wrong with classic shapes and timeless colours - they will always be in season - and you can confidently stock up and know you will be wearing your classics for years to come.  Classic shapes include crew necks, especially crew neck cardigans, V necks, and basic T shirts, leggings, tunics for layering.  The black jersey dress is always a classic, wardrobe staple.  Timeless colours - that are always in fashion include Greys (pale or dark)  Beige/Biscuit colours, and of course Black.

If in doubt - size up.  If you are concerned something is a bit small in fit - always go up a size.  Most fabrics and yarns shrink a tiny bit after washing.  Clothes always look better a bit looser, than too tight (with the exception of skinny fit jeans!).  Never buy shoes unless they are 100% comfortable.

Steer clear of fads.  Seasonal fashion fads are great for updating your wardrobe at the beginning of the season - however, you don't want to go buying these sorts of items at the end of the seaons - they are going to have a very short life span and will look dated within a few months, at the beginning of the new season.

Try something different.  Shopping on sale is a great opportunity to try something different.  I often hear women say - 'ooh I've never worn purple before' or 'oh I don't wear cardigans'.  Somtimes you need to step out of your comfort zone and try something new - and sales give you that extra incentive to give it a try and get out of the wardrobe doldrums!

Enjoy the sales and take advantage of the opportunity to shop at Joseph Saba's online sale @ www.josephsaba.com.au

Clothes that travel with you

As we have more reasons to travel; cheaper airfares and holiday deals, long weekends, and the need to travel for business, it becomes more and more important to have the right clothes to make travelling easier.

Many airfares are cheaper if you can get by with carry on luggage only, and packing for a trip should be easy and fuss free. Here's my tips for choosing what to take with you:

A good pair of jeans - don't pack your old ones with the ripped knees, take a good pair, dark denim, that can be worn casual or dressed up - preferably wear them on the plane so they don't take up valuable luggage space.  If you don't have a pair - it's worth buying a new pair - as you'll get plenty of wear from them.

T shirts - pack plenty of T's.  Long sleeve T's, short sleeve T's, good colours are white, grey marle and black.  These can be layered if it gets cold, worn to bed, and dressed up with a jacket or cardigan.

Crew neck T w. cap slv (easy fit) Joseph Saba               Crew neck long sleeve T (easy fit) Joseph Saba             Short sleeve crew neck T Joseph Saba             Jersey lounge pant Joseph Saba

Jersey lounge pants - my lounge pants are great for relaxing in the hotel room, or for an early morning walk, and dressy enough to wear down to breakfast or to go for a coffee - beautiful, casual, relaxed and chic - I never go away without these.

Cardigans - take one on the plane, and if you've got room pack a spare - good colours to go with your T's; Biscotti, Amethyst, Grey Marle, or Black.

Cocoon cardigan w curved hem Joseph Saba              Crew neck long slv cardi w snaps and zip pockets - Amethyst Joseph Saba               Crew neck raglan slv cardigan w snaps (long sleeve) - Camel Joseph Saba            Ballet dress w. bracelet sleeve Joseph Saba              Long sleeve jersey dress w. drape neckline Joseph Saba

A jersey dress - it won't crease - and it's versatile; wear it casual or dress it up.

That's it!  Great jeans, plenty of T's, a cardigan and a sophisticated jersey dress and you are ready to go.  No fuss, no creases, just effortless but chic dressing.

Womens Clothing - How to Make the Most of your Wardrobe

We were recently invited to a ball, which sounds like a lot of fun - but after pencilling the date in my diary, and booking a babysitter, my thoughts immediately turned to what to wear!  Joe and I are lucky to have plenty of choice when it comes to clothes, but we're not 'black tie' people - we don't frock up that often, and so dressing for a ball, in Winter, required some attention.

My wardrobe is bulging with clothes, much loved clothes - collected over many years of working in the rag trade - and every six months I make a point of doing a 'wardrobe audit' or what we call in retail 'changeover' (ie. changing from one season to another).  This sounds boring - but if you give your wardrobe a spring clean every six months, you'll find all sorts of things you'd forgotten you had; that leather skirt that's back in fashion, your good winter coat - and yes, it needs a dryclean! - and those classic black pants or white shirt you forgot you had.

You'll also find a number of things that you need to toss out - clothes don't last forever - and there comes a time when we have to say goodbye to some of our treasures and buy replacements.  A friend of mine stored all her old SABA suits in a wardrobe and left them there for years - only to find them covered in mould.  My wardrobe gets dusty and I have to regularly dust the shoulders of my jackets.  We invest a lot of money in our clothes - so take the time to spend an hour at the change of seasons, to do a wardrobe audit.  Make sure all your knits and jersey are folded (never hung) and put your summer knits to the top of your wardrobe and bring your winter ones down.  You'll find plenty of pieces you can re-use, and then you'll have a better idea of what you need to buy for the season.  Make sure you have plenty of long sleeve T's, tunics and leggings for Winter layering and build from there.

Crew neck long sleeve T (easy fit) Joseph Saba              3/4 sleeve wide V neck T               Long legging - Black Joseph Saba           Long tunic T w long sleeves - Seagull Joseph Saba

The bad news is I didn't find anything in my wardrobe suitable for the ball - but I did find a few other great pieces I'd forgotten about - and my wardrobe is now neat and tidy and freshly stocked with pest strips.  Now all I have to do is find a gorgeous dress for a winter ball!

UPDATE YOUR WINTER WARDROBE WITH CAMEL

You probably have a number of great, classic pieces in your winter wardrobe which are still fashion relevant - and an easy way of updating your look for the new Winter season, is by adding the season's highlight colour.  If you haven't noticed already - this season's must have colour is Camel.

Adding one or two pieces in Camel will give your wardrobe an instant seasonal update - and it's an easy colour to work back with your existing pieces - as it looks great with greys, black, and denim.

Whether you choose a camel sweater or cardigan, a camel dress, or a classic camel coat - you will instantly take on the look of Winter 2011.  Leather is a great option to wear with camel - giving a classic camel cardigan a contemporary, modern feel.  And if you're not quite ready to go Camel - try a shade like Biscotti, in the same colour family.
